Phase 2: Working with your product
Untitled Document
It should be understood that while most of our templates include a "form" of some sort, configuring the form and troubleshooting any problems that may occur in making the
form work on your server is not within the scope of the support offered with the template.
The reason that we do not provide support for the FrontPage form component is:
- This is a "software specific" component -- it is not within the scope of our support to teach you how to use FrontPage
- All problems that occur with making a FrontPage form going live are configuration issues related to the permissions of your server that is running FrontPage extensions
Having said that, we do want to get you started and on the right track.
How to edit where the form results are sent (via email, or to a "results" file on your server)...
- In the middle of the form, right click
- Select "Form Properties"
- Make your changes to the configuration of the form and then click "Okay"
Things to remember...
- You must publish your form page out to your website in order to test it out -- it will not work on your local computer.
- You must publish your form page WITH FrontPage to a server with FrontPage Extensions. If you are using FP 2003, you must not use the FTP method, it must be the FrontPage or Sharepoint Server method.
- If, when you save your form properites, it tells you that the page must be saved on a server with FP Extensions, and it asks you if you want to remove the "email" code snippet, say "NO".
Common Error Messages/Problems...
- FrontPage Run-Time Component Error (or something similiar)
This usually means that your form is not properly configured for your web server.
Possible Fixes:
- Use an email address with the same domain as your website. IE if your website is www.yoursite.com, use you@yoursite.com
- Remove the email address altogether (some web hosts don't allow form results to be sent out -- you may need to contact your web host to have this allowed)
- Confirm that there is a valid "results" file up to your server (check the _private folder for a file matching the name specified in the Form Properites)
- Contact your Web Host
- FrontPage Server Extension Error (or something simliar)
Possible Fixes:
-
The form submits fine, but you do not receive an email
Possible Fixes
- You have not specified an email address (go to your Form Properties and set the email address)
- Your web server must have an email address with the same domain as your website.
- Your web server does not allow outgoing email (contact your web host to confirm)
- Your web server does not send out email immediately -- wait 30 minutes
- Contact your web host
- If none of the above issues describe your problem, the best thing you can do for yourself is to go to the FrontPage Support Center
