Publishing
INSTRUCTIONS
There are several ways you can publish your website in Dreamweaver, we'll
review the FTP method. You can use the Help Menu in Dreamweaver, to review the
other methods ( you'll find this topic under the setting up a Dreamweaver site )
When you initally set your site up in Dreamweaver, you have the option of
setting up your FTP information at that time. If you bypassed this info, you can
get back to the publish options by:
- click the 'Site' menu
- click Manage Sites
- select your site from the scrolling list
- then click Edit...
- click on the ADVANCED tab
- click on Remote Info
- from the Access: drop menu, select FTP
- enter your FTP information, then click the Test button
- if you're not sure if you should place a check beside the ( Use passive
FTP / Use IPv6 / Use firewall / Use Secure FTP ) try without, and test.
- if you do not connect, make sure you have an internet connection, and
check your FTP / Login / Password
And finally, you’ve built a really nice
web site, signed up with a FrontPage or SharePoint enabled
web host and you’re ready to do live.
Since you’ve been building your website with FrontPage or
Expression Web Designer, we’re only going to cover
publishing your website using these tools. There are several
methods for publishing your website, but NONE of them
provide the ease of use found with FrontPage or Expression
Web Designer.
One of the advantages of publishing your website to a
FrontPage or SharePoint enabled server is that your form
pages will automatically be set up, and you can log into
your LIVE site, and make changes to your LIVE web site
directly on the server. This is great for quick updates.
To publish your website with FrontPage or Expression Web
Designer to a FrontPage or SharePoint enabled web server.
open your website in FrontPage / Expression
click on the File menu…
click on Publish Site…
in the Remote Web Site Properties window, select the:
FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Services radio
button
Enter your complete URL into the Remote Web site location
dialog box, example:
http://www.lukcymarble.com
Click OK
Enter your User name: and Password: provided by your web
hosting company
Most usernames and passwords are CaSe SenSitive, enter this
information EXACTLY as it is provided to you by your hosting
company
Click OK
Click on the ‘Publish Web site’ button (lower right corner)
to start the publication process
You will see a split screen the left side displaying your
LOCAL website (pages, files and folders)
The REMOTE website will show the contents in the RIGHT side
window pain. If you have not yet published your site, you
would only see the following
folders:
_private
images
These folders are created by default by FrontPage or
Expression, and any information you have in your local
website will simply over write these ‘default’ folders. |
